March 2013

The 3rd grade students have made tremendous gains thus far!  It is now the third grading term…time to give it our ALL for the final 12 weeks of school!  These weeks are very critical in terms of learning the remaining curriculum, polishing our skills for state testing, and preparing for the transition to 4th grade!
During this term, you may begin to see that your child has more homework, more challenging assignments, as well as a demand for more independent work completion.  I have no doubt that the students can rise to the challenge…they are all capable of achieving great things!!
Be sure to continue studying/practicing all basic math facts… addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  We are moving beyond counting by 1’s… use fives and tens as benchmark numbers for more sophisticated  strategies!

February

Winter is finally here!  Don’t let those snow days be an excuse for your child to have late or missing assignments… any assignments that would have been due on the snow day are still due when he/she returns to school.  Our goal is to keep children focused despite the wintery weather!
It’s time to replenish supplies.  Many children need new pencils, crayons, colored pencils, and/or folders.  Check with your child to see what is needed!

We are well into the school year, and our daily schedule seems to be set!  The students move around a lot during the day, which offers great benefits to their learning opportunities.  Continue to encourage your child to complete homework each day, to have a positive attitude toward school, to eat well, and to get enough rest each night. I am lucky to spend a great deal of time with these children… I want each of them to have a great 3rd grade experience!  Thank you for supporting our efforts!

Moving into September...

Terrific Kids + Terrific Minds = Terrific Taylor Mill Tigers!
We have had a FABULOUS first few weeks of school!  Jumping right into 3rd grade curriculum, we are… already switching classes for Reading/ELA, almost finished with our introductory Writing piece, using Empty Number Lines in Math, and we will begin switching for Science/Social Studies the week of September 10.  The children are doing a great job learning and following the new procedures, as well as rising to meet the high expectations.  I am “most-impressed” with this dynamic group of students!  What a wonderful way to start 2012-13!
